Draconian: A rose for the apocalypse

26/08/11  ||  Smalley

As they so often are, Audio Autopsyturny was wrong about “A rose for the apocalypse” ; it isn’t overly derivative, dull, or an Opeth clone, but rather, like I said beforehand , Draconian is interesting, epic, emotional goth metal with some actual balls, and a nice dichotomy of growls & beautiful female vocals courtesy of Anders Jacobsson/Lisa Johansson, both of which styles is kept in a nice, even-handed balance here.

You got yer heavier, more crushing stuff here, and the slower, more intimately emotional sections as well, and both are executed well. Nothing real amazing or unexpected here, and not every single cut is a hit, but it’s still mostly solid stuff nonetheless, so I definitely dig it.

7.5/10: A good album from a good band.
